Sketch App tutorial: Tools 101
Through this lesson we learn the different types of tools included in Sketch and how these tools can be used while working. These tools are explored in detail while we progress through the guide.
As you can see, there are a number of tools on the window shown in Figure 1. You can find different drawing tools on the left hand side of the interface that is placed together.
In this app you have the Vector tool which helps you to draw freehand vector objects with ease. The interface shows three types of tools. You can draw open and closed paths with the Adobe illustrator which is quite similar to the Pen.
This tool is relatively easy to use. All that you need to do is insert an anchor point one after another and you get the required figure. As there are several options on the right side of the panel, we can easily modify the features of the figure.
Figure 2 shows the difference between the two panels depicted in two modes- when we are drawing the figure and when it is completed.

The Pencil tool is another freehand tool which is included in this software app. You can use the tool easily as though you are tracing a drawing with a pencil on a piece of paper.
The Shape tool can be used to create different types of shapes. It has a wide variety of geometric options such as rectangle, line, arrow and so forth. You can find the entire list in Figure 3.

Apart from these, there are various other types of instruments in the insert group. The two different types of tools are the Image tool and the Text tool. You can use the Text tool to insert text in a rectangle. This tool can also be used to modify paragraphs within the rectangle. Figure 4 shows how the tool compresses the long text within the rectangle. You can also increase or decrease the size of the containment field or rectangle simply by dragging the points on each side. There are three points on each side of the field.

You can use the image tool to open a dialog box. The tool allows you to select any image from the hard disk. You can enlarge or reduce the size of the selected image by using the handles used for the text. Figure 5 displays the Image tool clearly.

In the next lesson, we will study about the remaining types of advanced tools. Most of these features are responsible for the significant use of Sketch app when it is compared to other similar software tools. Some of the most important features of this app are Symbol, Art board, Style Text and Slice. Please refer to the Figure 6.

The Slice tool allows you to add specific worksheets on the canvas and export only a single portion. You can also choose the device to work on print, web or mobile. It is one of the most important tools in Sketch software app. Apart from Slice, Style Text and Symbol are other tools which makes the app unique. With these tools, you can utilize text and objects in a quick and systematic manner. For instance, you can convert a symbol into an object or vice-versa with a simple click of the button. You can also repeat it if necessary. You can also set a style to the text so that repetition is no longer essential in every paragraph.
